The Ekos BioCredita Programme

THE EKOS SD PROGRAMME

Is a market-based mechanism designed to fund projects delivering any of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDGs). BioCredita is the biodiversity scope of the Ekos SD Programme.

The Ekos BioCredita programme provides an opportunity for terrestrial and/or marine biodiversity conservation projects to gain funding through the sale of biodiversity credits. These biodiversity credits are certified to our internationally peer-reviewed standard, third-party verified, and issued and tracked in the Ekos SD Registry.

Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari

An indigenous forest remnant ‘mainland island’ protected by a 47 km predator-proof fence, it is one of the world’s largest fenced eco-sanctuaries, creating a haven for indigenous biodiversity.

All Biodiversity credits issued through the Ekos BioCredita programme are independently verified by an Ekos approved verification firm and the Biodiversity credits are issued and retired on the Ekos SD Registry.

BUYING BIODIVERSITY CREDITS

Buy biodiversity credits either for your Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting, or bundled with carbon credits for your carbon offsetting (e.g., for a carbon-related claim).

Our carbon and biodiversity credit bundles each containing a certified carbon credit from an international renewable energy project and biodiversity credits from a local BioCredita project.

DEVELOP A PROJECT

These five steps outline the process we follow to issue biodiversity credits to your project:

The Ekos BioCredita programme is not a source of money for your biodiversity conservation project (i.e., Ekos does not buy your biodiversity credits).

The source of money for your project is the potential buyers of your biodiversity credits. BioCredita is designed to help you win those buyers.

Biodiversity markets are still in their infancy. For this reason projects need to put lots of effort into finding buyers.
