What is carbon credit monetisation?

Carbon credit monetization is simply turning your carbon credits (NZUs) into dollars ($). To do this we use the NZU spot price plus a price premium on top of that (for native forest only) and sell these NZUs to our business clients who want to use them as offsets.

Why would I monetise my carbon credits?

This is a useful way to create an income stream that can be re-invested into your forest carbon project and conservation efforts. For example, the money generated from selling the carbon credits could be used for, planting, fencing, pest control, weed control and monitoring efforts.

Does your project meet our criteria?

• An NZ ETS Registered Project OR Registered under an international carbon standard such as Plan Vivo (Transparent, Real, Measurable, Verified, Additional, Not double counted, Address leakage, Permanent).

• A permanent forest

• Our preferred forest type is indigenous, but we also may accept cases whereby it is an exotic forest transitioning into native forest using continuous cover forestry methods

• The project must also be doing more than ‘business as usual’

What does this look like?

This would mean your forest carbon project would have its very own page on our website with photographs and the story behind the project as well as the technical details. This allows business clients and others to view your project and its characteristics upon making a decision to choose to purchase carbon credits.

Price premiums for native forest

When monetizing carbon credits through Ekos, native forest carbon projects get a price premium over the spot price. This is an additional benefit to recognize the environmental co-benefits such as biodiversity that native forest offers.
